CeBIT 2009: Windows Mobile has no future, future of mobile Windows is Google Android !

Situation with Windows Mobile this year is a bit depressing: still no multi-touch in sight (Windows Mobile 7 in second half of 2010 might have it, or maybe not?), app store for Windows Mobile still not released, and Windows Mobile 6.5 coming too late (after Summer 2009) to impress anybody (considering what competition will offer by then - Palm Pre on sale, 2 new iPhone models in June, etc.).

If this all would not be enough, it looks like good old friend of Windows Mobile is abandoning it:

Reinhard Clemens is CEO of T-Systems, one of major subsidiaries of German telco Deutsche Telekom - the biggest telecommunications corporation in EU, that also owns T-Mobile, including T-Mobile USA. He is also on Executive Board of the whole Deutsche Telekom corporation, so he knows very well what are plans of T-Mobile.

While in past T-Mobile was releasing many Windows Mobile phones in their "MDA" series, and still T-Mobile is doing it, the future looks differently: at CeBIT 2009 Reinhard Clemens publicly said "Android will be a Windows of future" (literally!). Furthermore he has criticized Windows Mobile as not power efficient enough and requiring power socket in vicinity due to poor power management! He said literally: "Windows Mobile devours simply too much energy".

While nowadays Google Android still lags behind Windows Mobile, the situation is however very volatile according to Mr. Clemens and Google Android helps mobile operators (aka "wireless carriers") to stay maximally independent from hardware manufacturers.

It is preposterous, that a top executive of major telecommunications company is badmouthing Windows Mobile! We know for certain, that Nokia corporation is totally scared of Google Android: it is nothing but panic what is going on out there at Nokia, when it comes to Google Android! Not Windows Mobile, not even Apple iPhone, impresses Nokia too much, but Google Android: total panic! This public critic of Windows Mobile by a top executive might be however a sign of times to come: while Google Android still is battling with teething problems and several companies (including Samsung and Motorola) have postponed releases of their Google Android phones, it might well be that Google Android will overtake not only Windows Mobile and iPhone but also Nokia-owned Symbian, that pretends to be open source but still is a puppet of Nokia.

Difficult times are coming for whole Windows Mobile ecosystem. Not to mention the fact that Microsoft is cobbling together also their "Microsoft phone" that is a combination of Zune and Danger Sidekick and should be unveiled by the end of this or next year... but mobile operators aka wireless carriers don't want to become dummy pipe to the Internet and they don't want brands of handset manufacturers to eclipse their own brands (what is Nokia doing and that's why they don't like this corporation)... and they also don't trust software that is not open source or is not free, like for example Windows Mobile!

We still believe that Microsoft Windows Mobile has bright future, but Microsoft really must hurry up with app store and multi-touch...
